Bonds

A Treasury bond, or T-bond, is a long-term debt security issued by the U.S. Treasury Department that represents a loan to the federal government.

When you buy a Treasury bond, you are lending money to the government in exchange for a fixed interest rate, or coupon rate, paid every six months. When the bond matures, the government pays back the original amount of the loan, also known as the bond's face value.

Treasury bonds are considered a low-risk investment because the U.S. government has never defaulted on its debt. They also offer tax advantages and greater liquidity than other types of bonds. However, the value of Treasury bonds can fall if market interest rates rise.
